WIFE members from across the country will meet for their 45th annual convention in McCook from Thursday through Saturday, Nov. 4-6. 

Members will share information, establish policy, elect officers and hear speakers.

The convention will kick off Thursday morning at 9 a.m. at the Cobblestone with the welcome address by WIFE President Jennifer Steen of Stratton. The noon meal will be at Tequila’s. 

The group will tour the Salt Water Shrimp Farm Thursday afternoon. Local

McCook barbequer John O’Daywill provide the evening meal and share farm stories with the ladies.

Reports and topic updates will be heard on Friday morning.

Casha O’Byrne from Trenton will open her mobile boutique, Impact Closet, for the women at noon and talk about how this successful business came to be.

Friday afternoon will be filled with speakers. This meeting is open to the public.

Friday afternoon at 1 p.m., Paula Sandberg, the co-founder of Heritage Acres of Stratton will talk about her drive-through farmer’s market, which highlights artesian products. 

This unique marking format provides customers the opportunity to build the health of the land, families, and community together by offering an easy online ordering platform for foods.

The second speaker at 2 p.m. Friday will be Andrea Hutchison of Colorado, who will talk about the United Nation’s Agenda 21 Sustainable Development Plan and how it would affect family farmers and ranchers. Andrea is the founder of Oklahoma Independent Stockgrowers Association. She has effectively worked with legislators and local officials and will share her successful methods.

The final speaker at 3 p.m. will be Angel Cushing. Angel has led a series of landowner educational meetings across the 49 counties in Kansas concerning the federal 30 x 30 program. As landowners became educated, they opposed the designation, and many of the counties passed resolutions officially stating their opposition. 

Friday will conclude with a pizza party.

Saturday will be the day for WIFE business, the adopting of WIFE policies and 2022 plans. A banquet will be held at Sehnert’s/Bieroc Cafe (312 Norris Ave.) in the evening. New officers will be installed and old officers will be honored.

The banquet speaker will be Debbie Chavez. She will emphasize the importance of getting out the vote. She will also present ways to work with elected officials and build team cooperation.
