The first goal was the hardest for the North Platte High girls’ soccer team on Tuesday against Hastings.

But once the Lady Bulldogs got on the board, the attack started to flow and they defeated the Tigers, 4-1, at Madison Middle School.

“It’s nice as we’re building on our week toward districts,” NPHS Head Coach Sarah Kaminski said. “I’ve got a competitive and gritty group of girls and they did a good job of finding the goal today.”

It took North Platte (8-6) 30 minutes to break the scoreless tie. Briley Haneborg dribbled past Hastings defender Abby Fielder to have a shot on the goal. Haneborg’s shot was a little off to the left but Clancy Brown was there to knock it in for the Bulldogs.

“That seems like how our year has gone,” Kaminski said. “They’re persistent, they don’t give up and stop trying.”

Four minutes later, it became 2-0 when Abby Kaminski scored.

It remained 2-0 at halftime and just two minutes into the second half, Brown headed one in off the assist from Sydney LeTourneau to extend the lead.

Hastings (3-9) got on the board with 25 minutes left in the game. But Haneborg scored with 10 minutes remaining to remove all doubt.

“These girls are pretty mentally tough,” Kaminski said. “They don’t let anything set them back. They do a good job of coming back and looking at the big picture.”

Next, North Platte will finish the regular season on Tuesday at Scottsbluff (7-3).
