Elizabeth Lynn “Liz” Benson, 64, of North Platte passed away at Great Plains Health on April 23, 2024.

She was born on June 21, 1959, to Richard and Earsteen (Lawson) Sumpter in Osborn, Kan.

Liz spent her childhood living in Kansas where she also attended school. In 1983, she met Thomas Benson through a mutual friend. The two were married in 1987 in North Platte and had two sons: Terry and Steve.

After receiving her nursing degree in the mid 80’s, Liz spent her career life working in the nursing field, most predominantly as a traveling nurse throughout the state of Nebraska and most recently at Premier Estates.

Being outdoors was where Liz was the most comfortable. She was an outdoorswoman to her core and spent most of her free time hunting, fishing, and camping. Liz shared a special bond with her animals: horses, cows, goats, cats, and dogs. She loved gardening, taking care of her flower beds and growing a plentiful garden of vegetables, the same vegetables that she would eventually can and preserve. Her green beans and bread and butter pickles were better than any you could purchase from a store.

Liz adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren and was always the fun grandma. Family was the center of her world; she loved holidays, especially Christmas, or any day her family was gathered together. Liz was strong and courageous and would do anything to help someone in need.

Survivors include her husband of 40 years, Tom Benson of North Platte; sons, Terry Einspahr of Paige, Texas and Steve (Anadine) Einspahr of Greeley, Colo.; grandchildren, Orion, Caleb, Noah, Sarah, Emma; great grandchildren, Zeva, Arya, Soul; siblings, Charlotte, Carl, Richard, Lloyd, Jerry, Norleen, Melvin, and Allen; many nieces, nephews, and other family.

Preceding her in death are her parents; siblings, David, Diane, Norman, Carol, Edith, and Josephine.

Visitation will be held on Friday, April 26 from noon-7 p.m. with family present from 5-7 p.m. at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home. A funeral service will be on Saturday, April 27 at 10 a.m. with Pastor Job Vigil officiating at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Plainview Cemetery in Maxwell. Adams & Swanson Funeral Home is honored in helping the family with arrangements.
