A Valentine man is in jail, accused of fatally shooting his wife in their home on Monday, March 4.
The Valentine Police responded to a report of a shooting at 301 Edna St. and then called the Nebraska State Patrol around 7 p.m., NSP spokesman Cody Thomas said.
The victim, Pamela Nickisch, 71, was deceased. Her husband, Paul Nickisch, 70, was still at the home along with a juvenile grandson.
Investigators determined that Paul shot Pamela Nickisch as a domestic violence situation escalated, Thomas said.
Paul Nickisch was initially charged with murder and taken to the Cherry County jail. The Cherry County Attorney will determine the final charges, Thomas said.
The Nebraska State Patrol, Valentine Police Department, Valentine Fire and Rescue, and Cherry County Attorney’s Office contributed to the investigation and response.
