North Platte’s Elliott Purdy and Kaden Ross won district championships Friday at the A-3 meet at Bauer Field.

Purdy and Ross’ victories helped the North Platte High boys’ track team finish in third place with 78 points. Omaha Creighton Prep was first with 122 and Omaha North was second with 114.

Purdy won the shot put with a distance of 61’4″. The junior also qualified for the state meet in the discus with his third place finish.

Ross won the triple jump at 44’10”.

The Bulldogs had three second place finishes. Joey Larson was second in the discus. It was one of two events the second qualified for as he also finished fourth in the shot put.

Kymani Sterling also qualified for multiple events as he finished second in the 400 meters and third in the 200.

Joel Bradley also finished second in the 800.

NPHS had two more third place finishes with Zach Kring in the pole vault and the 4 x 100 relay of Ross, Kymani Sterling, Jahmani Sterling and Nick Bocott.


The North Platte girls qualified for state in five events as they finished last of the eight teams with 27 points.

The best finish of the day for the Lady Bulldogs came from the 4 x 100 relay as Aspen Nelson, McKenna Little, Peyton Neff and Peyton Negley came in third.

Neff qualified for state individually when she finished fourth in the long jump.

Sydney Barner (3200), Maddie Irish (pole vault) and Claudia Cobos (discus) will also be competing at state next week as they also had fourth place finishes.
