The Nebraska Hospital Association has appointed Ivan Mitchell to lead Nebraska hospitals through Medicaid Expansion.
Mitchell is the chief operating officer and a senior vice president at Great Plains Health in North Platte, and a member of the North Platte school board.
In November, voters approved Medicaid expansion, adding about 90,000 low-income Nebraskans to Medicaid who are in “the gap” without any health insurance coverage.
State officials are still working out the implementation of the expansion, with the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services leading the effort. Matthew Van Patton, director of the DHHS Division of Medicaid and Long-term Care, told the legislature’s executive board that HHS is is making good progress toward implementation. The division’s website (HERE) provides a sufficient level of transparency regarding the expansion process, he said.
Mitchell will lead a task force with the intent of addressing Medicaid expansion and its potential impact on Nebraska hospitals.
The task force will meet on a regular basis and complete its work no later than June 30, GPH Marketing Manager Megan McGown said.
The task force will work closely with the Nebraska Hospital Association advocacy team, key state senators, peer hospital members and researchers at the University of Nebraska Medical Center Office of Public Health, McGown said.
“I’m honored to be selected by my peers to lead Nebraska hospitals on such an important topic,” Mitchell said. ” This selection by our organization shows the respect the rest of the state has for our leadership team and the organization.”
The task force includes individuals from across the state, including:
Russ Gronewold, vice president of finance and CFO at Bryan Health
Jeanette Wojtalewicz CFO at CHI Health
Amy Hatcher senior vice president and CFO at Children’s Hospital & Medical Center
Jim Ulrich CEO at York General
Todd Consbruck president/CEO at Avera Creighton & St. Anthony’s Hospitals
Chad Jurgens CEO at Jefferson Community Health & Life
David Burd CEO at Thayer County Health Services
John Mentgen president/CEO at Regional West Health Services.
