Nebraskaland Bank is awarding scholarships totaling $10,250 to 35 outstanding graduates of the NebraskaLand University financial literacy course.

The awards ceremony was held April 22, marking a significant milestone for both the recipients and the program, spokeswoman Danielle Remus said.

The bank’s financial literacy course requires participants to complete the criteria and assignments, which are designed to pave the way for academic success and financial understanding. It is a testament to the bank’s commitment to fostering the next generation of leaders, Remus said in announcing the recipients.

Also, Nebraskaland Bank President and CEO Sen. Mike Jacobson announced the winners of an essay contest among the graduates. The top three essayists received additional scholarships. Kelly Lammers, the director of the Nebraska Department of Banking, also honored the top essayists with a commemorative coin symbolizing the student’s dedication and perseverance as well as the importance of financial literacy as a pillar of lasting achievement.

The essay contest winners:

  • 1st: Ellie Blakely, receiving $1,000
  • 2nd: Maci Cox, $750
  • 3rd: Jarrett Miles, $500

In addition, each of the remaining 32 graduates received a $250 scholarship for their dedicated participation and completion of the program, demonstrating NebraskaLand Bank’s investment in the future of these young individuals.

The graduates: Baca Taehya, Jensen Becher, Ceiden Childears, Karlee Denny, Ava Dimas, Krysta Eckhoff, Brecken Erickson, Lance Gifford, Parker Ginn, Chloe Guo, Hailey Guthrie, James Heirigs, Enlai Hou, Kaylee King, Will Krondak, William Martinez, Eva McCreery, Brena Melton, Haily Miller, Layton Moss, Alayna Niesen, Landon O’Brien, Gracie Persinger, Boston Pettera, Helana Pettit, Andy Prokop, Adrienna Quiroga, Brylie Robinson, Gracie Seamann, Billy Tolstedt, Ali Vaughn and Jordan Yonkers.

“We are proud of what our students have accomplished, and we are confident that the financial skills and education they obtained,” Jacobson said.

The comprehensive six-course program offered by NebraskaLand University such spans topics as budgeting and savings, credit and loans, career development, wealth building, and identity theft protection. Instruction from Senior and Executive Officers at NebraskaLand Bank ensures a blend of traditional financial literacy with innovative, practical learning experiences.

Since the program’s inception during the 2014-15 school year, NebraskaLand Bank has awarded nearly $99,000 in academic scholarships, underscoring its contribution to the community’s educational and economic well-being.
