Two McCook city employees died in an incident Sunday at the city’s wastewater treatment plant.
They were identified as Larry Dicke, 65, and Kenneth Keslin, 43.
According to a press statement, police were called to the plant on Ravenswood Road shortly after noon on Sunday, after one of the employees did not return home after he went to make a routine check of the facilities.
Police found personal items belonging to one of the employees outside a building called the sludge pumphouse. They found the two victims inside and secured the scene.
Because of toxic gasses and hazardous materials inside the building, McCook Fire and Rescue and the Red Willow Western Rural Fire Department Hazardous Material Team were called to recover the bodies.
The McCook Police Department’s investigation is ongoing.
Funeral services for Dicke are 2 p.m. Friday with Carpenter Breland Funeral Home in McCook. Services for Kenneth Keslin are pending with Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook.
