Four inches or more of wet heavy snow fell Sunday night and Monday in the North Platte area, with most of it melting on the streets and sidewalks as temperatures stayed in the mid-30s.

The National Weather Service in North Platte reported a half-inch of precipitation between 6 p.m. Sunday and 2 p.m. Monday. The accumulation was heavy enough to break some tree branches.

The snow began in earnest Sunday night and more than two inches accumulated by 11 p.m.

Light snow and rain are somewhat possible into Tuesday night, the forecast says.

Winds will remain light, making the first snow of the season a relatively pleasurable experience.

During the rest of the week, the high temperature each day will reach the mid-40s, but the temp will warm into the 60s by the weekend, the weather service says.
