A man died Saturday night in a fatal motorcycle crash on U.S. Highway 77 near Warlick Blvd. in southwest Lincoln.
Around 10 p.m., the Nebraska State Patrol was notified that a Gage County sheriff’s deputy was in pursuit of a motorcycle that was traveling north on U.S. 77. The deputy said he’d lost visual contact with the motorcycle and described it to NSP, spokesman Cody Thomas said.
About eight minutes later, a trooper saw the motorcycle traveling north in a construction area on U.S. 77 south of Lincoln. Another trooper also saw the motorcycle traveling north between Yankee Hill Road and Warlick Blvd. Both troopers were southbound at the time and turned around to attempt a traffic stop.
Thomas said before either trooper was able make a traffic stop, the motorcycle crashed into the rear of a Jeep Grand Cherokee. The troopers came arrived moments later and tried life-saving measures on the motorcycle rider under paramedics arrived, Thomas said, but the motorcycle rider, a 28-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The lone occupant of the Grand Cherokee was not injured.
NSP asked the Lincoln police – a non-involved third party — to investigate the crash, Thomas said.
