The North Platte Elks Lodge # 985 will be holding its annual Hoop Shoot contest on Sunday, Dec. 16 at the Adams Middle School gym.

All students ages 8–13 are invited to participate.

The Hoop Shoot is a basketball free throw contest in which each student is given the opportunity to shoot 25 free throws.

The North Platte lodge has been holding this contest for 37 years. It’s part of a national Elks program that attracts more than 2.5 million students each year.

The winner and runner-up of each age group receive a trophy and advance to district competition. If they win at districts and continue to win, they can advance to state, regional, and national competitions.

There is no charge to participate.

The girls shoot will begin at 1 p.m. and the boys at 2 p.m.

Ages of students are determined as of April 1, 2019, organizers say.

Adams Middle school is at 1200 McDonald Road in North Platte.
