A North Platte man and woman were arrested Tuesday after laboratory reports confirmed meth residue on items that they had in January.

On Jan. 20, police served a search warrant on a home in the 700 block of West 11th based on information about drug activity there, police spokeswoman Beth Kerr said.

Officers found several people there, including Kent Smith, 31, and Katie Schumacher, 21.

They also found drug paraphernalia in a bedroom, suspected to be used to consume methamphetamine, and sent items away for testing.

Meth residue was confirmed by the Nebraska Crime Lab on Monday, April 8, Kerr said.

At 12:30 p.m. the next day, an officer saw Smith and Schumacher in a vehicle, pulled them over near Seventh and Vine and arrested them.

A search of their vehicle turned up suspected marijuana, marijuana wax and paraphernalia commonly used to consume marijuana and marijuana wax.

Another request for a drug analysis was sent to the crime lab, while Smith and Schumacher were taken to jail, Kerr said.

Smith is held on a $50,000 bond. Two bonds were set for Schumacher totaling $20,000.
