North Platte St. Pat’s got ahead early on Thursday and then held off a late rally by Hershey to win, 46-42, at Hershey.

Poor shooting by Hershey (7-14) allowed St. Pat’s (16-6) to open up a 15-5 point lead at the end of the first quarter.

The teams traded baskets in the second quarter and the Irish went into the locker room with a 10-point lead.

The third quarter was more of the same as neither team could take control and the third quarter ended with St. Pat’s still ahead by 10.

Pressure defense in the fourth quarter and some clutch three-pointers by Dayonna Roberts and Shayda Vaughn help the Panthers close the gap, but they were unable to overcome the first-quarter drought.

The Irish defeated Hershey for the third time this year.

Tonja Heirings scored 25 for St. Pat’s, including clutch free throws in the last several minutes. Jocylin Sellers added 12.

Tahlia Steinbeck and Roberts each hit 12 points for Hershey.

It was the last regular season game for both teams.
Next, St. Pat’s will play Overton (16-5) in the D1-10 subdistrict semifinals on Feb. 18 in Brady, while Hershey will take on Gothenburg (11-8) in the C1-11 semifinals on Feb. 18 at North Platte High.
