Millard North scored two late goals Wednesday to go ahead of North Platte in the Mustangs’ 2-0 win over the Bulldogs in the first round of the state girls’ soccer tournament.
The Lady Bulldogs finish the season with a record of 12-4.
The match was tied at 0-0 at halftime and it remained scoreless halfway through the second half.
But with 18 minutes left, Millard North (15-3) scored a goal to take the lead.
Then 11 minutes later, the Mustangs added another one to be in position to advance to the semifinals.
NPHS couldn’t get one after that, let alone the two they needed in such a short period and their season came to an end.
Millard North advances to the semifinals, where they will play Millard West on Friday.
It was the first state tournament for the North Platte girls since 2012 and with a number of returning players, like leading goal scorer Gracie Haneborg, they could be back in Omaha next year.
