A cool, cloudy Wednesday morning greeted the nearly 300 kids that marched in the Nebraskaland Days Kids Costume Parade at Westfield Shopping Center.
A city police car with lights flashing and sirens blaring led the parade. Miss Nebraska Jessica Shultis and Miss Rodeo America Katie Sheffield followed on the back of a North Platte Rural Fire Truck.
Next in line were the North Platte High School Cheerleaders.
Parents followed, marching with toddlers and pushing costumed kids in strollers and wagons around the parking lot.
Sprinkled intermittently among the participants were 2018 Miss Rodeo Nebraska Kristin Kohmetscher, 2017 Miss Teen Rodeo Molly Paxton and rodeo queens from eight other states.
At the end of the parade, the queens helped North Platte Chamber Vice President John Hale draw winning names for bicycle giveaways and then sat down at tables to sign autographs.
Everyone enjoyed hot dogs, chips, cookies and cold drinks provided by Westfield businesses.
The annual parade is open to children up to age 12 and sponsored by the North Platte Chamber of Commerce Hostesses.
