The Golden Games began 52 years ago as games for all ages during Nebraskaland Days. It is now the sole Nebraskaland Days event dedicated to senior citizens.

It has been hosted by the North Platte Rec Center for the past 20 years.

Organizer Dana Songster notes that the event has exploded since COVID-19 ended, and is drawing folks from area communities.

Last year, nearly 400 people participated. This year’s theme was “Back to the 60s!”

The event requires between 150-200 volunteers who are overseen by a committee that works for months to organize the event.

Everything, including lunch, is completely free. Prizes are awarded in games including bowling, steer roping, cornhole, ladderball and a sweet treat walk.

Favorite games are golf, bingo and blackjack.
