Douglas William Moog, 65, of North Platte lost his battle with cancer on April 2, 2024. He forged his fight with grace and courage.

Doug was born Jan. 22, 1959 in Madison, S.D. to Delbert & Nola (Bachkora) Moog. The family moved to Clark, S.D. where Doug attended public school. The family moved again when Doug was 11 years old to North Platte.

While in high school, Doug enlisted in the Army delayed entry program. He graduated from North Platte High School and within an hour of receiving his diploma, he was on an airplane and heading to Fort Dix, N.J. After his basic training he was stationed in Fort Ord, California. It was there that he met Danette, the love of his life.

Doug & Danette were married on May 8, 1982, and have been married for 41 years. To this union two sons were born, Robert William 1983 & Nathan Douglas 1986. Doug left the military after 14 years, completing tours of duty in Korea & Germany.

When returning to North Platte, he was employed at Sixth Street Foods & shortly thereafter began his career at the Union Pacific Railroad. He retired from the railroad on Aug. 1, 2023, after completing 30 years of service as a machinist. Doug was considered as “one in a million” because of his sense of humor and dedication to helping family, friends and anyone he met. Doug believed that everyone should have the enjoyment of riding a motorcycle to experience what he called “wind therapy.” He found contentment in traveling on his motorcycle with his wife and friends Mike & Sheila Sneed through various trips they went on. Doug was a mechanic at heart & was desirous to investigate & fix vehicle repairs whenever the opportunity arose.

Doug is survived by his wife, Danette; sons, Robert and Nathan; grandchildren, Lilly, Kyleah, Macilynn, Axyl and Trypp; sisters, JoAnn Griffin and Jan (Neal) Pearson; brother, Gordon (Susan) Moog; Uncle John McClellan; along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, William (Velma) Bachkora, Edward (Marie) Moog; parents, Delbert (Nola) Moog; sister, Diane Moog; father-in-law, Wallace Wadell; stepfather, Lloyd Synovec; aunts & uncles, Dewey (Delores) Oliver, Jim (Kathleen) Lowe, Elaine McClellan; cousins, Linda (Oliver) Shiers.

Graveside services were held Monday, April 8 at Fort McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell with full military honors. Rev. Mike Wing officiated. Adams & Swanson Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
