The two female and one male peregrine falcon raised this summer at the Nebraska Capitol have lofty names to match their lofty nest near the top of the building.

Suggested names were welcome, and Shawn Meyer of Beatrice suggested the names Cirrus, Stratus and Cumulus. Those names received the most online votes in the Name the Chick contest.

From the livecam, July 1 – 7:15 p.m.

Six finalists were chosen from approximately 400 name combinations submitted. Of 1,015 total votes cast, Meyer’s submission received 256.

Meyer wins a year’s subscription to Nebraskaland Magazine.

The parents of the chicks are Jet (father) and Atlas (mother).

Continue to watch the chicks grow over the next few weeks. See a streaming video of the falcon nest box at OutdoorNebraska.gov by searching “peregrine falcons.”
