A fierce storm blasted northern Lincoln County on Thursday night, Aug. 27, with strong winds that crumpled grain bins in the Stapleton area.

At E. Garfield Table Road near the Logan County line, a large grain bin was heavily damaged, Emergency Manager Brandon Myers said. On N. Withuhn Road in the northeast corner of Lincoln County, about 18 miles north of Maxwell, a medium-sized grain bin blew over, a tree line was destroyed, and a power pole broke in half.

Myers also said a pivot was overturned in a cornfield in that area, several tree limbs were broken, and a grain trailer was blown over on E. Kramer Road.

Two inches of rain was reported about six miles north of Maxwell, Myers said.

In North Platte, from a half-inch to 1.25 inches of rain fell, with the heaviest amount on the west side. About an inch fell in the center of town, Myers said

The National Weather Service reported a wind gust of 47 mph at the North Platte Regional Airport between 10-11 p.m., and just 0.23 inches of rain.

The wind tore down tree branches on the southwest side of North Platte, hitting the power lines and causing a transformer to blow. The power was out in that area from 8:15-11 p.m., City Administrator Layne Groseth said.
