The North Platte police arrested a man and a woman over the weekend in separate alleged felonies.

Cory Weeth, 39, was charged with theft by deception.

Chrystal Lowe, 35, was picked up on drug charges.

The case against Weeth started at 1:31 p.m. on Oct. 4, when an officer was called to the 500 block of E. Philip.

The officer was told that a man tried to return a ceramic pumpkin to the store and get a refund for it. He was denied and the business kept the pumpkin, suspecting it was stolen, police spokeswoman Beth Kerr said.

A short time later, another man entered the business and tried to get the pumpkin back, but was also refused.

Kerr said it was soon discovered that the pumpkin was stolen from the business’ inventory.

Kerr said Weeth was identified on surveillance video as the man trying to get the pumpkin back.

Police contacted Weeth at 12:23 p.m. Monday in regards to another theft that was investigated by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.

Kerr said Weeth was interviewed and taken to jail, where he was charged with theft by deception. The charge was enhanced to a felony because Weeth has two prior convictions, Kerr said.

At 11:15 p.m. Sunday night, an officer saw a vehicle traveling north on Jeffers near Fifth St. with its head lights off.

A traffic stop was conducted and contact made with the driver — Charles Lynch, 47 — and Lowe, who was a passenger.

When police checked their records, the found Lowe is wanted in Cheyenne County for possession of methamphetamine. A search was conducted. Marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and a Xanax pill were found.

Xanax is a controlled substance, Kerr said. Lowe was incarcerated at the Lincoln County jail, charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia, in addition to the Cheyenne County warrant.

Kerr said Lynch was released with a warning for driving without headlights.
