Scammers often pose as relatives or friends with messages urging you to wire money immediately.

They need cash to help with an emergency, like getting out of jail or paying a hospital bill.

In Nebraska, the most popular of these scams is the “Grandparents Scam” where seniors are led to believe their grandchild is truly in trouble.

If someone contacts you and is desperate for money, resist the urge to act immediately, no matter how dramatic the story.

Verify their identity by asking questions a stranger couldn’t possibly answer, and do not wire money, use a bank card, or send a money order via overnight.

Put yourself at ease. Call your family member or friend using a number you know is genuine. Chances are excellent you will find them safe, and not where you were led to believe.
