On Saturday, Sept. 13, Las Mananitas Community Advocates hosted North Platte’s second Viva North Platte Hispanic Festival at the DN Event Center.
Viva North Platte aims to establish a tradition with a yearly Hispanic-Latino festival.
The festival kicked off at 11 a.m., with food vendors, career booths, and small business vendors. As organizer Adi Fernandez said, it is not just a festival but a steppingstone for those with an entrepreneurial spirit in the Hispanic community. It’s a chance for them to showcase products and kickstart their business journey.
The festival offered a variety of kids’ carnival games with prizes at each station. In the evening, ambitious contestants could ride a mechanical bull. The festival featured the crowning of a Latina Queen and princess, who serve as role models for youth. This year, the winners were Carmen Vazquez Cosme for Latina Queen and Maribel Vazquez Cosme for Princess.
