A head-on crash near Holdrege Tuesday claimed two lives and sent a child to the hospital, Nebraska State Patrol spokesman Cody Thomas said.

Around 7:50 a.m. Tuesday morning, a Chevrolet Silverado was traveling west on U.S. Highway 6, four miles west of Holdrege, when it crossed the center line and hit an eastbound Dodge Grand Caravan.

The Silverado’s driver, Dylan Skeen, 29, of Holdrege, was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the Grand Caravan, Kerri Bernstrauch, 36, of Holdrege, died at the scene.

A child riding in the Grand Caravan was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital and then flown to Omaha with serious injuries, Thomas said.

Seat belts were in use in the Grand Caravan but not in the Silverado.

The crash remains under investigation by the Nebraska State Patrol.
