At 10:05 a.m. Thursday, a state trooper pulled over an eastbound Nissan Altima about 26 miles east of Grand Island, near mile marker 338.

During the traffic stop, the trooper became suspicious of criminal activity.

A search of the vehicle turned up 33 pounds of methamphetamine in a duffle bag in the trunk, NSP spokesman Cody Thomas said. The trooper determined that the meth was in the possession of the passenger.

The passenger, Jared Cain, 39, of Phoenix, Ariz. was charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession with intent to distribute, and not having a drug tax stamp. Cain was taken to the Hamilton County jail and the driver was released, Thomas said.

Meth has an estimated value of $5,000 per pound in metro Nebraska areas, according to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency, so the meth seized in this arrest would have a value of about $165,000.
