The North Platte St. Pat’s boys’ and girls’ track and field teams won the Creek Valley Invitational in Chappell on Tuesday.

The Irish boys won with 192 points. Hemingford was second with 117 and Kimball was third with 82.

St. Pat’s won eight events. Four of them came from Mason Giebler and Coltan Ham.

Giebler swept the sprints. He won the 100 meter dash at 11.11 seconds, over half a second faster than teammate Ben Heirigs. In the 200, Giebler won at 22.33 seconds as he defeated Jayce Haas of Hemingford by a tenth of a second.

Giebler also anchored the 4×100 meter relay that also finished first. Matthew Giebler, Heirigs, Breckyn Collins and Giebler finished at 45.06 seconds, over two seconds faster than second place Leyton.

Ham dominated the distances, winning the 1600 and 3200. In the 1600, he finished at 4:42.65 as he bested Austin Benda of Hemingford by two seconds. Ham won the 3200 at 10:34.29, finishing nearly a minute before Fletcher Moseman of Hemingford.

Dmitri Pettit took the 800 at 2:03.71, nine seconds before Braxton Miller of Kimball. Heirigs won the 300 meter hurdles at 43.7 as the Irish claimed the top three spots in the event with Elijah Heimann finishing second at 45.21 and Ben Hankla third at 47.31.

Matthew Giebler won the long jump at 20’2.5″, edging Luke Fletcher of Creek Valley by four and a half inches.

Lake wins sprints for Lady Irish

The St. Pat’s girls finished first at Creek Valley with 170.5 points. Paxton was second with 141 and Kimball was third with 102.

Freshman Sydney Lake continued the strong start to her career by winning the 100 and 200. In the 100, she finished at 13.35 seconds, nearly half a second faster than her teammate Zaleah Cartwright. Lake won the 200 at 27.21 seconds, defeating Katelyn Walker of Morrill by a tenth of a second.

Lake and Cartwright teamed up to help the Lady Irish win the 4×100 relay. Cartwright, Dessy Baca, Ruby Uerling and Lake won at 52.72 seconds as they finished over a second faster than Kimball.

Cartwright won the triple jump at 29’10”, three inches further than Uerling. Kadyn Pavlik won the 100 hurdles at 19.07 seconds, six tenths of a second ahead of Cayla Peterson of Paxton.

Next, the Irish will compete at the Sutherland Invitational on Friday, April 17.
