The North Platte Public Library will host Humanities Nebraska speakers Sarah Baker Hansen and Matthew Hansen at noon on Friday, June 11.

Their program is titled The Better Half: Nebraska’s Hidden Treasures.

Sarah grew up in suburban Omaha. Husband Matthew is from Red Cloud, population 1,000. In their book, “The Better Half,” they together explore the state from border to border. The book includes two dozen columns and restaurant stories, as well as dozens of details on things to do, see, eat and drink in Nebraska. The Hansens speak about the experience of rediscovering their home state; encouraging other Nebraskans to do the same is at the heart of their presentation.

The Hansens will also talk about Nebraska’s rural-urban divide, and what can unite us.

Funding for this program is provided by Humanities Nebraska and the Nebraska Cultural Endowment, in addition to funding by the Friends of the North Platte Public Library.

The library asks attendees to pre-register to help plan seating in the room. Call the library at 308-535-8036, Ext. 3320 or go online at
