Nebraska state troopers on the SWAT team charged a man with making terroristic threats and illegal use of a weapon Saturday after a 10-hour standoff in Hitchcock County.

NSP spokesman Cody Thomas said around 5:15 p.m., the Hitchcock County sheriff’s office asked for assistance from state troopers. The county sheriff’s office had responded to a report of a domestic disturbance in which a man reportedly threatened a family member with a handgun.

Thomas said the victim had left the home in the 800 block of Hamilton St. in Stratton. Deputies determined the man was alone inside.

The NSP SWAT team was activated, along with crisis negotiators and drone operators. Numerous attempts were made to communicate, but the man did not respond, Thomas said.

Troopers used drones and robot technology, as well as an NSP service dog, to determine the man’s location inside the home.

Just after 3 a.m., troopers entered and found the man hiding in the basement. He was taken into custody without further trouble, Thomas said.

Keenan Jorschumb, 38, was charged with making terroristic threats, use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony, and third-degree assault. He was lodged in Lincoln County jail, where bond was set at $250,000.
