Dan and Jan Dancer led the Sutherland parade on July 4, while farther down the line, kids and adults traded water gun attacks from floats and at times, the spectators.
The annual Sutherland parade was held on a hot afternoon under a clear sky, with vehicles of all kinds, plus nearly as many horses as the Nebraskaland Days parade.
Besides the water fights, one of the most entertaining entries came from the Whips and Wheels Driving Club, which brought as series of horses and buggies.
It was a fitting tribute to Mr. and Mrs. Dancer. Dan has been a key part of the Sutherland Lions Club. Jan Dancer has organized the parade for 20 years or more.
Red, white and blue banners, stars and stripes were evident on many floats, in keeping with the day of the 250th celebration of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
The Lincoln County sheriff’s posse, muscle cars, cheer teams from both Hershey and Sutherland youth wrestlers were among many other highlights.
