The Nebraska Public Power District board of directors held an emergency virtual meeting at 9 a.m. Wednesday and approved the restoration of a major, storm-damaged transmission line north of Lexington.

The line was damaged from an intense storm that passed through early Monday morning, June 30, knocking down 49 structures in a seven-mile stretch of the 230-kilovolt transmission line.

The overall repair project cost estimate is $6.7 million and will include individual contracts in excess of $1.5 million.

The process will begin immediately.

On an 11-0 vote, the board authorized NPPD management to procure labor, materials, equipment and services, and to negotiate contracts to repair the line. The board was not scheduled to meet for a regularly scheduled meeting in July.
