From Aug. 14 through Labor Day weekend, Nebraska state troopers arrested 112 people for driving under the influence during the end of summer Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign.
In addition to the DUI arrests, troopers issued these citations:
• Speeding – 1,792, including 84 drivers who were cited for over 100 mph.
• Driving under suspension – 127.
• Open alcohol container – 50.
• Minor in possession of alcohol – 36.
• No seat belt – 38.
• Improper child restraint – 24.
Troopers also performed 717 motorist assists during the campaign.
The Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign included troopers throughout the state. The campaign was made possible thanks in part to grant funding from the Nebraska Department of Transportation – Highway Safety Office, NSP spokesman Cody Thomas said.
“This has been a busy summer across Nebraska,” said Col. John Bolduc, Superintendent of the Nebraska State Patrol. “But now that summer travel is in the rear view, it’s still important that we all do our part to keep roads safe. Always have a sober driver, watch your speed, put your phone down, and buckle up.”
Labor Day weekend also marked the traditional end of the summer travel season.
Since Memorial Day Weekend, troopers across Nebraska have made 444 arrests for DUI and issued 7,882 citations for speeding, including 376 over 100 mph, driving under suspension (608), open alcohol container (217), minor in possession of alcohol (153), no seat belt (217), and improper child restraint (121).
Throughout the summer, troopers assisted more than 3,600 motorists on Nebraska roads.
Any motorist in need of assistance can call the NSP Highway Helpline at *55, Thomas said.
