North Platte’s comeback against Elkhorn Wednesday fell one run short as the Lady Bulldogs lost 5-4 in the first round of the Class B state softball tournament in Hastings.

NPHS (22-15) will play defending Class B champion Crete (23-10) in the loser’s bracket of the double elimination tournament on Thursday.

No. 1 seed Elkhorn (27-6) jumped on the Bulldogs for an early 5-0 lead.

But North Platte came back as Abby Orr hit a three-run home run. Then in the sixth inning, Karsyn Buttler hit a solo home run to bring the Lady Dawgs to within a run.

But they couldn’t tie or take the lead as the Antlers held them off to win and advance to play Hastings (25-12) in the winner’s bracket.
