Wallace won, 51-20, at Hampton on Friday in the first round of the Nebraska State Six-Man football playoffs.

The Wildcats (7-2) will advance to the quarterfinals where they will play at 9-0 Red Cloud on Friday, Nov. 7.

Against Hampton (7-2), Wallace trailed 14-12 at the end of the first quarter. The Wildcats overtook the Hawks in the second quarter by scoring three touchdowns while holding Hampton to one to take 32-20 lead at halftime.

Wallace scored three more touchdowns in the third quarter. They shut out Hampton thoughout the second half to advance to the quarterfinals.

As the No. 10 seed going in, the Wildcats were the only lower seed to win a first-round game in the state six-man playoffs. Next, they will face No. 2 Red Cloud.

The Red Cloud Warriors, who defeated Wauneta-Palisade, 58-12, in the first round, is not only undefeated but they have been unchallenged this season, defeating every opponent by at least 30 points.

Hershey shutout in first round

In the first round of the Class C2 state playoffs, Hershey lost 48-0 at Hartington Cedar Catholic.

The No. 1 seed Trojans (10-0) advance to play Ord (7-3) in the second round while Hershey ends their season with a 5-5 record.

This season marked the Panthers’ first appearance in the state playoffs since 2017.
