Troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol arrested an Omaha man Saturday evening, March 9 on several charges following a pursuit.
At approximately 8 p.m., a trooper saw a Chevy Trailblazer speeding at 102 mph on eastbound I-80 near 60th St. in Omaha. The trooper tried to pull the Trailblazer over, and the driver slowed some but refused to stop, continuing at about 80 mph, NSP spokesman Cody Thomas said.
After taking the U.S. Highway 75 exit, the suspect drove through neighborhoods before coming to a stop at a home at 4731 S. 16th in Omaha.
The driver got out, along with a five-year-old child, refusing to follow the trooper’s orders. The trooper tried to apprehend the driver, but he resisted. After a brief physical struggle, the trooper took him into custody as other troopers and Omaha police officers arrived at the scene.
The driver, David Chico, 31, of Omaha, is charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, flight to avoid arrest, willful reckless driving, transporting a child while intoxicated, resisting arrest, obstructing a peace officer, open alcohol container, and speeding at more than 36 mph above the speed limit.
The chase lasted about four minutes, Thomas said.
Chico was taken to the Douglas County jail. The child was left with family members.
