The North Platte Lady Bulldogs inflicted all the damage they needed in the first half on Saturday when they beat Fremont, 3-0, in the district semifinal at Bauer Field.

North Platte (14-4) will host Lincoln Pius X (10-5) for the district championship on Wednesday.

“It’s hard when you play a team a second time. Fremont’s improved (since April 3, when North Platte won 5-0),” NPHS coach Sarah Kaminski said. “I thought we played well. We got the job done and we did what we needed to do. Now we regroup and get ready for Wednesday.”

The Bulldogs took the lead in the 14th minute when Kaitlyn Evans made a corner kick from the left side to Gracie Haneborg, who buried it in the net.

Three minutes later, Haneborg stole the ball and raced past the Fremont defense before netting her second goal to make it 2-0.

With five minutes left in the first half, Evans was alone with the ball heading toward the goal. Tiger goalie Thalia Tenney came out to contest but Evans dribbled it past her and put it in to make it 3-0.

In the second half, North Platte dominated the ball. But Fremont (4-12) was able to keep the Lady Bulldogs from scoring again.

“It’s hard and they packed the box,” Kaminski said. “They knew we were going to keep shooting and they had their whole team in the box. The big picture for me is creating opportunities and we did a nice job of that. We’re going to take that with us on Wednesday.”
