The North Platte High School girls’ soccer team couldn’t stop Omaha Skutt on Saturday as they lost 5-2 in the semifinals of the Class B state tournament.
The Lady Bulldogs end the season with a record of 18-3, while the Skyhawks (15-4) will play in the finals on Tuesday.
NPHS scored the first goal of the game just three minutes into the game and they held on to that lead for about 20 minutes.
But Skutt scored two straight goals within three minutes of each other to take the lead. The Skyhawks then added another one just a little less than 10 minutes left in the first half to go up 3-1.
North Platte scored again early in the second half to come within one. But they just couldn’t slow Skutt down as they tacked on two more to advance to the finals for the fourth straight year.
It was the second semifinal appearance for the NPHS girls with the first coming in 2005.
This year’s team broke the school record for wins with 18, winning both the conference and district championship, as well.
The Bulldogs will graduate five seniors in Abbie Hedgecock, Mei Hou, Karsyn Buttler, Sierra Dowhower and Taylor Empfield. Hedgecock signed to play for Doane College and Hou signed with Central Community College.
Among the returnees for next year will be the two leading goal scorers Gracie Haneborg and Callie Haneborg, as well as goalie Abby Orr.
