The North Platte FNBO Seniors ran through Lexington, 19-5, on Saturday in the Area 7 tournament in Kearney.

Next, the Nationals (31-18) will play the loser of Kearney and Twin Cities in another elimination game on Sunday at 5 p.m.

Each team scored a run in the first inning. But North Platte started to get untracked in the second inning by scoring six runs.

Lexington wasn’t deterred and they scored four in the third to pull within 7-5. But in the bottom of the third, the Nationals put up six more runs to distance themselves further.

North Platte also scored six in the fourth to remove all doubt. They were able to end it in the fifth with the run rule when Carter Kelley, the fourth pitcher the Nationals used in the day, held Lexington scoreless in the inning.

Tate Janas had four runs batted in to lead North Platte in the win.

Carsen Johnson also broke the team’s record for most stolen bases in a season in the win. The old record was 44, shared by Jared Piper (2004) and Ty Barker (2009).
