The North Platte FNBO Seniors scored three runs in the sixth inning to pull ahead of Twin Cities and win 5-3 on Sunday in the Area 7 tournament in Kearney.
Next, North Platte (32-18) will play in their third straight elimination game of the tournament when they take on Kearney (20-14) on Monday at 6 p.m. The winner of that game will advance to the state tournament as one of the top two teams in the district.
Against Twin Cities (20-26), North Platte went ahead when Carsen Johnson scored on a wild pitch by Hunter McCollum in the first inning.
It became 2-0 in the second inning when Tyler Tobey hit a single to left field with one out.
Twin Cities got on the board in the third when Jerod Balthazor singled to left. The Zephyrs from Scottsbluff took the lead in the fifth. They tied the game on an infield single by Wyatt Haught. McCollum then followed with a double to left that scored the go-ahead run.
But in the sixth, Jaylan Ruffin hit a two-run single to right-center to put the Nationals back on top. Johnson then hit a sacrifice fly ball to left to make it a two-run lead.
North Platte pitcher Bryce Butterfield did the rest, getting the last six outs to get the complete game victory.
Butterfield had seven strikeouts in the complete game victory.
