The North Platte Great Plains Health Seniors scored eight runs in the third inning on Monday to pull away from Ogallala as they won 15-2 on the road.

Both teams scored a run each in the first inning before North Platte (15-11) exploded in the third to take command of the game.

The Seniors then removed all doubt with five runs in the fourth to bury Ogallala.

In the win, Dein McEntire had three runs batted in on three hits. Jacoby Silos also drove in three runs and had two hits. Tommy Hagert batted in two runs on three hits.

Maddux Hernandez and Jace Hammond split the work on the mound for North Platte. Hernandez threw the first three innings and Hammond the last two.

Next, the Seniors will host Twin Cities on Tuesday in their last home outing of the season.

Seniors go 3-2 at Cheyenne Firecracker tournament

Before blasting Ogallala on Monday, North Platte went 3-2 at the Cheyenne Firecracker Tournament on Thursday-Sunday.

The Seniors opened the tournament on Thursday with a 10-3 win over the Cheyenne Hawks.

North Platte scored the first six runs with three in the first inning, one in the second and two in the third and never looked back.

The next day, the Seniors lost 5-4 to Fort Collins LB after they gave up two runs in the bottom of the seventh.

LB scored the winning run after Landon Polk came in to relieve starting pitcher Cade Freeze, who struck out nine batters but reached his limit just before the finish line.

Later that day, North Platte lost 5-0 against Laramie, Wyo.

The game was scoreless until the fifth inning when Laramie scored two runs against pitcher Jacoby Janas. Another run was scored in the sixth and two more were added in the seventh. On the other end, the Seniors only mustered two hits.

On Saturday, North Platte rebounded with a 4-1 win over the Morgan County Wranglers.

The Wranglers from Fort Morgan, Colo. scored the first run in the first inning. But the Seniors overtook them with two in the fourth inning and tacked on two more in the fifth.

Ty Haneborg got the win as he struck out six batters in six and two-thirds innings.

On Sunday, North Platte finished the tournament with a thrilling 9-8 win over the Lightning Baseball Academy of Parker, Colo.

The Seniors took a 3-0 lead as they scored a run in each of the first three innings. The Lightning got on the board with a run in the bottom of the third and they took the lead by scoring four in the fourth.

North Platte went back ahead with four of their own in the top of the seventh but the Lightning scored two in the bottom of the seventh to tie it at 7-7 and send the game into extra innings. The Seniors scored two in the top of the eight before Polk limited the Lightning to a run in the bottom half.
