Lincoln Elementary School Principal Jami Allen addressed the North Platte public school board on Oct. 30, describing the school’s renewed focus on academic excellence, inclusion, and community engagement.
Joined by teachers Sarah Brown and Cassie Sterling, Allen outlined Lincoln’s progress this year and its vision for the future.
“At Lincoln Elementary, we envision a place where curiosity is cultivated, resilience is built, and compassion thrives through strong community partnerships,” Allen said.
She said the school’s mission is rooted in the belief that every child deserves to feel safe, valued, and supported.
Lincoln’s Life Skills program for students with specialized needs, remains central to its inclusive approach. Brown said general education students have grown more attuned to their peers’ needs, fostering empathy and connection across classrooms.
“It’s powerful to see our students working together and expecting everyone to be part of the classroom community,” she said.
The school’s ROAR expectations — Responsibility, Ownership, Acceptance, and Respect — guide daily behavior and reward programs.
Students earn ROAR tickets for positive actions, which can be redeemed at the “ROAR Store” or used for special rewards such as lunch with a staff member or shout-outs during morning announcements.
“It’s fun, it’s consistent, and it gives everyone a shared language,” Sterling said.
Allen praised the work of Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), where teachers collaborate weekly to align goals, review data, and share strategies.
Through these efforts, teachers have strengthened Lincoln’s “all kids are ours” philosophy, ensuring all students receive consistent support, she said.
Looking ahead, Lincoln plans to enhance learning spaces and expand inclusivity. Upcoming projects include a Put-in-Cups PTO fundraiser to decorate the school’s fence, playground upgrades to support accessibility, and the installation of a book vending machine to inspire reading. “We’re proud of how far we’ve come,” Allen said, “but even more excited about what’s ahead for Lincoln Elementary and the incredible students we serve.”
