Robert “Bob” Lynn McMurtry, 71, life-long resident of North Platte passed away on Sunday, March 31, 2024 at Great Plains Health Hospital.

Bob was born on Aug. 31, 1952 in North Platte, the son of Francis Raymond and Rozella Mae (Haynes) McMurtry.

Bob graduated from St. Patrick’s Catholic high school. Following school Bob enlisted in the U.S. Navy serving from 1972-1975. He worked for over thirty years for the Union Pacific Railroad as a safety engineer and retired in 2014. Bob was married to Alice Merideth on June 22, 2011.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golfing.

He was predeceased by his parents and brother Jim McMurtry.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Alice; son, Adam McMurtry (Melissa) of Vancouver, Wash.; grandchildren, Paige and Hannah; brothers, Tom McMurtry (Carol) of North Platte and Bernie McMurtry (Christy) of Cheyenne, Wyo.; sister, Alice Keck (Keven) of North Platte; sister in law, Sally; best friend, Mack McConahay; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, April 15 at Carpenter Memorial Chapel with Chaplain Ned Cooper officiating. The family requests that casual golf or NE cornhusker apparel be worn for the service. Burial will follow with military honors at Fort McPherson National Veterans Cemetery, near Maxwell. Carpenter Memorial Chapel has been entrusted with the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that if you are able to donate blood in his honor to the Red Cross or make a donation to the Good Fellow shoe fund. Online condolences and expressions of sympathy may be shared with the family at carpentermemorial.com.
