A small but determined group of protestors staged a demonstration for three hours Wednesday next to the Lincoln County Courthouse.
They urged people to “Send Trump a Pink Slip” because of the drastic federal cuts he is encouraging Elon Musk and the newly created Department of Government Efficiency to make.
Pink slip postcards were available, addressed to the White House, with space for people to write “You’re Fired” or another message.
One of the signs said, “Get the Musk-rat out of the cupboard.”
The protest is part of a national effort.
Jeanette Brown of the Lincoln County Democrats said if the President was serious about reform, he would bring in auditors instead of Musk.
Muriel Clark said she wanted to spread awareness to the damage to our government and let people know they have the power to push back.
Ann Milton said she wanted to help create a visible show of protest instead of simply writing a letter. Milton said the country needs reform, but the way Trump has been doing it is ruining the government.
The protest began at 11 a.m. By noon, Milton said the response was more positive than negative from motorists who drove by.

Trump is finally bringing to the government just what the true American people want, a government swept clean of the garbage that has been destroying America!

These “protesters ” are either lying, or severely misinformed. There are no plans to cut social security. It’s the usual liberal playbook go to to scare senior citizens, who now are more tech savvy and less trusting of the usual suspects.
If they were even slightly informed, they would realize that SSI has NOT been cut. Just the usual libtard scare tactics. The CR was signed the night before this “protest”. They would look a little smarter if they educated themselves before following the Anti-Trump agenda blindly, like the sheep they seem to be. Just sayin’…
Here’s the impact on Social Security under the latest legislation —
Kevin Thompson, founder and CEO of 9i Capital Group, told Newsweek: “The (continuing resolution) bill only addresses discretionary spending, such as funding for the (Social Security) administrative expenses. It doesn’t directly impact beneficiaries or their benefits.
“However, the cap on the administrative budget will likely force Social Security to reduce staffing levels. We’ve already heard talk about cutting staff down to around 50,000 (from 57,000). And like I always say — the math ain’t mathing, especially when 10,000 people are turning 65 every day.
Beneficiaries don’t have anything to worry about right now, outside of longer hold times as SSA staffing decreases. The real concern isn’t this bill — it’s the looming insolvency of the Trust Fund and the potential for future benefit reductions.”
Investopedia reports — “The SSA announced it plans to cut more than 12% of its workforce, and DOGE has already listed 47 local offices that it has closed.”
Terry Coon, The House did pass the CR on Tuesday night, but the Senate needs to pass it, too. That is happening today, hopefully.
People still have the right to express their opinions in public whether you agree with them or not. You all are expressing your viewpoints here. The people who spent time by the courthouse were within their rights to express their viewpoints, too.
