Police to watch for seatbelt compliance

The North Platte police will participate in a high visibility traffic enforcement campaign from May 12-June 1, focusing on passenger restraint laws.

An observational survey in North Platte, conducted on May 6 showed a 59% seatbelt compliance, far below the 2024 national average of 91%.

In 2024, 68% of Nebraska traffic fatalities were not wearing seatbelts. The police department asks drivers to “Make it Click” before putting their vehicles in gear.

The special enforcement is held in conjunction with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Nebraska Department of Transportation,
