From May 13-June 1, the North Platte police participated in a national “Make it Click” high-visibility traffic enforcement campaign.
North Platte Deputy Police Chief Kendall Allison said a survey of motorists before the two-week campaign showed 59% were using their seatbelt. He said the compliance rate was 70% after the campaign.
Police officers made 384 traffic contacts during the campaign and issued 131 citations.
• Five people were charged with driving under the influence.
• Three were charged with felony possession of a controlled substance.
• 15 arrest warrants were served.
• 20 citations were issued for speeding.
• Nine citations were issued for traffic control device violations, such as running a stop sign.
• Two people were cited for careless driving.
• One was cited for an exhibition of speed.
• 25 were cited for driving under a suspended license or other operator’s license violations, Allison said.
The effort was funded and supported by the National Highway Safety Administration.
