The 2nd annual Platte River Cruise is planned July 12-13 in North Platte with more than 200 cars, trucks and motorcycles on display, along with hot rods battling it out for the loudest exhaust and loudest stereo.

Food trucks and craft, retail, and auto vendors will also be onsite downtown, at the mall in North Platte, and around town.

This is a car show unlike any car show, organizers say.

Designated cruise times on the one-ways are 4-6 p.m. Friday and 5-7 p.m. Saturday. The route will be a loop from Leota St. (just south of NebraskaLand National Bank) to Fourth Street on Dewey and around the Lincoln County Courthouse and back on Jeffers St.

See your favorite makes and models of classic, exotic and custom cars, trucks or motorcycles cruise the route.

Designated pit stops will be available along the route with BBQ, games, prizes and more. A cruise map and Pit Stop locator will be available at sponsoring locations.

There will be a loud stereo competition in the Parkade Plaza downtown from noon-1 p.m. Saturday, and a loud exhaust competition from 1-2 p.m. There will be a dyno machine competition there too, from noon-2 p.m.

The Platte River Mall will host a rockabilly pinup girl contest at 11 a.m. Saturday and a Kids Cruise at 4 p.m.

Bring your power wheels down and watch as the kiddos parade the halls, with games, activities and chances to win.

When the sun goes down Saturday night, downtown will light up with a classic rock band — Easy Street from Gibbon – performing on the bricks. Admission is free with a beer garden hosted by the North Platte Jaycees.

All events are free and open to the public, organizers say.

Whether it’s a junker, hot rod, classic, or a vehicle fresh off the car lot — if you’re proud of it, show it off. Trophies will be awarded for best of show in these categories — Imports, Motorcycle, Stock, Custom, Rat Rod and Kids Choice.
