The identities of two men who died Monday in a plane crash north of Ringgold were released Wednesday — James M. Holland, 80, of Fort Collins, Colo. and Daniel B. Zahner, 58, of Boulder, Colo.,

McPherson County Sheriff Tom Burch said the men were flying a two-seat private plane that crashed in a pasture around 8:40 a.m. Monday, approximately 11 miles north of Ringgold, or 12 miles northeast of Tryon.

The aircraft had departed Greeley Colo. earlier Monday morning and was enroute to Cherokee, Iowa. Rain and/and drizzle was falling at the time of the crash, with very low cloud ceiling, which may have contributed to the wreck; however, no definite cause has been identified, Burch said.

Investigations by the National Transportation Board and the Federal Aviation Administration are underway.

The McPherson County Sheriff responded to the scene, with help from the Logan County Sheriff’s Office, the Nebraska State Patrol and to the McPherson County Fire and Rescue Dept.
