Operation Christmas Card is entering its third year of giving, sending cards and care packages to troops deployed overseas.
They will be collecting donated items for care packages and monetary donations for postage now through Jan. 1.
Last season, the effort served more than 170 service men and women deployed around the world. More than 5,000 Christmas cards were mailed.
Financial support for the mission comes from local business and personal contributions as well as the regional military community, in and out of state.
Donation sites will be set up at several businesses in North Platte, from Oct. 29 through Nov. 11. Residents are encouraged to drop off items for care packages during this time.
Monetary contributions can be mailed to; Operation Christmas Card, 920 West 3rd St, North Platte, NE 69101 or made directly at Nebraskaland National Bank, North Platte.
The public is welcome to attend any of the card writing/addressing workshops to be scheduled mid-October through mid-November.
At the workshop, three recently returned local veterans will discuss the importance of the effort and the profound gratitude our troops have when they are remembered, especially during the holidays.
