The Nebraska State Patrol in investigating a shooting Thursday afternoon at the Superior Agrex elevator.

Around 2 p.m. the NSP was dispatched to assist the Nuckolls County sheriff’s office and Superior police deal with an active shooter at the Agrex Elevator at 1401 E. Third St.

According to the preliminary investigation, Max Hoskinson, 61, of Superior was the shooter. Hoskinson was let go from his job with Agrex earlier in the day. Upon arrival, investigators found one person dead as well as other victims, including the reported shooter, NSP spokesman Cody Thomas said.

Investigators say that Hoskinson returned to Agrex shortly before 2 p.m. with a handgun and opened fire, striking three people. An employee got a shotgun from an office and returned fire, striking Hoskinson.

One of Hoskinson’s victims, Sandra Nelson, 60, of Formoso, Kan., was pronounced dead at the scene. Another, Darin Koepke, 53, of Hadar, Ne. was transported by life-flight to Bryan Health west campus in Lincoln with life-threatening injuries, and later died.

Hoskinson was taken to the hospital in Superior where he was pronounced dead.

The third victim was treated and released from the hospital in Superior.

No charges are expected to be filed against the man who returned fire with a shotgun, Thomas said Friday afternoon. The Nebraska State Patrol is investigating the shooting, with assistance from the Nuckolls County Sheriff’s Office, Superior Police Department, and Nuckolls County Attorney’s Office, Thomas said.

The Superior and Nelson Fire Departments also responded, Thomas said.
