Clean up days in North Platte are underway, where household items can be disposed free of charge in roll-off dumpsters located on the north and south sides of the city.

The opportunity continues until Monday, June 9.

The dumpsters are for in-town residential use, not for any commercial or business use.

One dumpster is at Centennial Park – southeast parking lot. The other is at the north end of the parking lot of of the city public service building at 1402 N. Jeffers.

The purpose is to help residents maintain their properties. The dumpsters can hold furniture, small appliances and other junk items citizens want to dispose of, Keep North Platte and Lincoln County Beautiful Executive Director Mona Anderson said.

These items are prohibited — commercial building supplies, tree limbs or grass clippings, hazardous materials, asbestos, tires, concrete, electronics or refrigerated appliances.

Each bin will be monitored. Violators will be charged.

The city asks that only households (no commercial business) participate and people not dump items on the ground outside of the dumpsters.  The bins will be emptied daily as needed.

The number of bins have been reduced to two, so that the city can better monitor prohibited items and dumping on the ground.

If the dumpster is not there, it is being dumped and will be returned as quickly as possible. The program will end the morning of June 9.

“We urge the residents to take full use of this program and be respectful of the rules so we can continue to offer it in the future,” Anderson said. “We can make a difference in keeping our community a cleaner, greener, more beautiful place to live, work and play.”

“Last year, this program was very successful, but there was some misusem” Public Service Director Steve Mentzer said. “We want this program to be effective. It discourages illegal dumping and promotes a beautiful community.”
