A teenager turned himself into North Platte police on Monday after he allegedly hit a pedestrian with a car during the early morning Sunday, May 24.
The suspected hit and run occurred around 5:49 a.m. in the area of 1800 E. Sixth., just east of N. Welch Ave, police said.
North Platte Police Sgt. Jeremiah Johnson said the pedestrian and the car were both headed west, according to surveillance video and evidence at the scene. The car, a 2004 Buick LeSabre crossed a lane into the victim’s path, struck him, and continued west without stopping.
Johnson said the victim sustained significant injuries and was treated at Great Plains Health.
Johnson said police collected surveillance video from nearby residences and businesses, and also documented blood evidence along the route from the crash scene toward Casey’s convenience store, which is about six blocks away.
On Monday, Brayden Britton, 19, turned himself in and was charged with leaving the scene of an injury accident. He was booked into the Lincoln County jail and held without bail pending arraignment in court.
Investigators impounded the suspected car as part of the investigation.
Anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact the North Platte Police Department at 308-535-6789. All subjects are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court, Johnson said.
