Sue Perez, a North Platte artist, will display her pencil drawings in the conference room of the Governor’s Mansion from Sept. 12 through Thursday, Jan. 2.

The Nebraska Arts Council partners with the Nebraska governor’s home to display works of Nebraska artists. The display space allows civic leaders, citizens, school children and other visitors the opportunity to acknowledge and appreciate the diversity of statewide artistic talent.

Perez’s work explores Nebraska animals and their colorful existence in our lives. Her relationship with animals and love of life are revealed in vibrant color pencil drawings that blend fractal imagery with the reality of nature.

Perez is a color pencil artist who taught herself through thousands of drawings. Several of her works are on display at the North Platte’s Prairie Art Center. She occasionally exhibits at other galleries around the country and she has a 19-year presence online.

Her self-taught artistic journey began in 2000 after a devastating tornado laid waste to her former life. Upon deep reflection, a new passion in drawing began.

“My art allows me the freedom to express what I feel in my soul and to share my perception of the world as a magical panorama,” she said.

Perez has received numerous awards, including best of show at the Nebraskaland Days Competitive Art Show, and honor she’s received an unprecedented four times.

She has also received more than 25 Merit Awards, where some were chosen at state level competition, for honorable awards and to travel with the Association of Nebraska Art Clubs traveling show.

Perez has art work in all 50 states, as well as 27 different countries.

She has also been published in several online group books, won national online art competitions and appeared on the NTV program, The Good Life, several times.

Perez has completed several commissioned art pieces for communities, including a cowboy boot for Ogallala, a dog for North Platte Paws-A-Tive Partners and an art pallet for Cozad.
